Nu Chapter sends 12 members to the TKE Regional Leadership Conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Nu Chapter sends 12 members to the TKE Regional Leadership Conference

Berkeley, CA - February 21, 2010 – This past weekend Nu Chapter sent 12 fraters to the 2010 Greg and Cay Woodson Regional Leadership Conference in San Francisco. Cost for all 12 attendees was fully covered by the chapter through the combination of a Student Opportunity Grant from the Chancellor’s office, an Academic Opportunity Grant from the ASUC, and the continued generosity of our alumni to Nu Chapter’s Leadership fund.

Throughout the weekend-long Regional Leadership Conference, Fraters participate in educational sessions that help prepare them for success in college and the business world, network and build relationships with other undergraduates and alumni, and strengthen their understanding of TKE's ideals and principles.

Teke’s attending had the opportunity to hear speeches from Grand Grammateus Bob Barr, former US congressman and presidential candidate and Frater Ernie Ernest, President of Crown Metal and Vice Chairman of the TKE Educational Foundation. This conference was of special importance to Nu Chapter Tekes as 4 Nu Chapter Alumni were awarded with the Fraternity’s prestigious Golden Key Award. John Philips, Carl Anderson, Cliff Ceridono, and Dick Anderson were presented with their award this past Saturday for their outstanding commitments to the Fraternity.

Returning Nu Chapter fraters hope to take what they have learned this past weekend not only back to the chapter but also to their future endeavors. Nu chapter hopes to continue its tradition of attendance at RLC, and other Leadership Conferences and can always use financial assistance in its endeavors. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Brothers at TKE Nu Get Trained for Berkeley Food and Housing Project

February 5th, 2010 - Berkeley, CA - Last Friday 30 brothers attended a training class for the Berkeley Food and Housing Project in order to prepare themselves for future events with the organization.

Each brother spent an hour learning how to effectively serve and communicate with the homeless community from each Berkeley Food and Housing Project location.

"This training session really prepared me for future events with the Berkeley Food and Housing Project, as well as general philanthropy events," says Josh Feldman, a current Brother and House Manager at TKE.

Ted Rothenberg, the TKE philanthropy chair, plans for the trained TKE Brothers to serve the homeless community food twice a month on Fridays.

The Berkeley Food and Housing project, founded in 1970, "provides emergency food and shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing, and housing replacement with support services to homeless individuals and families." For more information, visit http://www.bfhp.org/, or call 1-866-960-2132.

TKE Nu Chapter Inducts 18 New Men into Candidate Education Program for Spring 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TKE Nu Chapter Inducts 18 New Men into Candidate Education Program for Spring 2010

Berkeley, CA - February 08, 2010 - Last Thursday the Nu Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon inducted 18 new men into their candidate education program. Candidates, commonly called pledges after the pledge they take to uphold the tenants of the Fraternity, will go through an eight week process designed to aid in their mental, moral, and social development and to familiarize them with the workings and history of Tau Kappa Epsilon, the Greek System, and the University.

The candidate education program is designed around the six pillars of Tau Kappa Epsilons: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, Teamwork, Service, and Brotherhood, and is managed by the pledge educator, or Hegemon. The program includes various activities from History Lessons on the TKE, the Greek System, and the University, to bonding and trust actives, to team building and leadership games.

To ensure that each candidate gets individual attention, and to assist in developing a stronger sense of brotherhood, each candidate is paired with a “Big Brother” who will serve as a mentor and role model. Big brothers are carefully chosen, and at the same time that the candidates take their pledge to the fraternity, the big brothers take a pledge to aid their respective candidates, or “Little Brothers,” through the pledge process.

All of the members of Tau Kappa Epsilon would like to congratulate all of our new candidates and are looking forward to seeing them develop throughout the semester. Parents who may be looking for more information on, or have questions about, Tau Kappa Epsilon can review TKE’s parent’s guide at: http://www.jointke.org/parent, for specific information on Nu Chapter programs please feel contact Dustin McKenzie, Chapter President, at dmckenzie@tkenu.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

TKE Nu Chapter Brothers Lend a Hand for K to College's "School Supplies Initiative"

Berkeley, CA - January 29, 2010 - Last Sunday, January 23rd from 9AM to noon brothers from TKE Nu Chapter at UC Berkeley attended the "School Supplies Initiative," a program led by the philanthropy group "K to College."

Thirty-one brothers were in attendance that day, putting together bags of school supplies for underprivileged K-12 students in the East Bay area. The brothers worked together with other UC Berkeley organizations at Pauley Ballroom on campus.

"It always feels good to give back to the community that supports us and our chapter." Says David Herschorn, the Secretary of Nu Chapter. "I see no better way than to help young students-tomorrow's university students and Tekes."

The "School Supply Initiative" seeks to provide every low-income student with 50-70 dollars worth of grade-appropriate school supplies at nearly a quarter of the cost.

Overall, the brothers were able to accumulate 93 hours total, with a semester philanthropy goal of 500 hours. Pictures of the event can be found on the TKE Nu website.

Also updated is the Nu Rush and Brothers pages, which include contact information and bios on the current Rush Chairs and Officer Corps.

In addition to website improvements, TKE Nu Chapter has entered into the Social Media arena, with Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook pages to use as effective rush tools in the new decade.

"Tkenu.com is another step in that process.  It is a great addition to our rush and we hope it will provide valuable information to anyone that is interested in becoming a brother in Tau Kappa Epsilon."

Nu Chapter of TKE Establishes Fund for Leadership Conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Nu Chapter of TKE Establishes Fund for Leadership Conference

Berkeley, CA - January 7, 2010 - In preparation for the 2010 Regional Leadership Conference, Berkeley's Nu Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon has begun soliciting donations for a new Leadership Fund. The goal of the leadership fund is to ensure funding to send chapter members to TKE’s Regional Leadership Conference, Leadership Academy, and other leadership symposiums.

Each year Tekes gather in cities across North America to further their understanding of the fraternal experience, build essential leadership skills, and celebrate their membership in Tau Kappa Epsilon. Throughout the weekend-long Regional Leadership Conference, Fraters participate in educational sessions that help prepare them for success in college and the business world, network and build relationships with other undergraduates and alumni, and strengthen their understanding of TKE's ideals and principles.

Nu Chapter is looking to raise $3000, enough money to cover the full cost of sending 10 active members and 4 candidates to this year’s RLC. The hope, however, is to far exceed this goal, allowing guaranteed funding for Fraters to attend similar functions in the future.

"We are always striving to be a better Chapter. Attendance to these conferences not only strengthens our Chapter but also strengthens our members," says Anthony Wright, founder of the fund and member of Nu Chapter. "This is one of our best opportunities to advance our mission of aiding men in their mental, moral, and social development; it would be a shame to miss out on it because of funding."

Donations are tax deductible, you can make them online through the TKE Educational Foundation at https://co.clickandpledge.com/default.aspx?wid=30806. No need to donate a large amount either, you can set up small recurring donations and offer continuous support at little cost to you! You can also donate by mail; make checks or money orders payable to Nu of Tau Kappa Epsilon and mail to:
