TKE Nu Chapter Inducts 18 New Men into Candidate Education Program for Spring 2010
Berkeley, CA – February 08, 2010 – Last Thursday the Nu Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon inducted 18 new men into their candidate education program. Candidates, commonly called pledges after the pledge they take to uphold the tenants of the Fraternity, will go through an eight week process designed to aid in their mental, moral, and social development and to familiarize them with the workings and history of Tau Kappa Epsilon, the Greek System, and the University.
The candidate education program is designed around the six pillars of Tau Kappa Epsilons: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, Teamwork, Service, and Brotherhood, and is managed by the pledge educator, or Hegemon. The program includes various activities from History Lessons on the TKE, the Greek System, and the University, to bonding and trust actives, to team building and leadership games.
To ensure that each candidate gets individual attention, and to assist in developing a stronger sense of brotherhood, each candidate is paired with a “Big Brother” who will serve as a mentor and role model. Big brothers are carefully chosen, and at the same time that the candidates take their pledge to the fraternity, the big brothers take a pledge to aid their respective candidates, or “Little Brothers,” through the pledge process.
All of the members of Tau Kappa Epsilon would like to congratulate all of our new candidates and are looking forward to seeing them develop throughout the semester.
